Sherman County is in the database!

Post by jonathan »

Steve Zimmerman got a Yellow-belled Racer and a DOR Gopher Snake while road-cruising in Sherman County. They are our first NAHERP records for that county.

That leaves just two counties, Morrow County and Union County, before we have at least one vouchered record for every county in Oregon!

Washington already has at least something for every county. Idaho and British Columbia both have a looong way to go.

I should add that there's been some good entries in some rarely-herped counties recently. Besides Sherman County, Steve also got four entries for Klamath County (tripling our records there and adding 4 new species) and added just the 3rd record in the database for Lake County, also a new species. And John H had three new entries for Wasco County, almost doubling the records we have there.

The county list for Oregon that I updated earlier in the year is here:

And the list for Washington is here:

If you want to see what's been recorded for any particular county, go to the search form on the www.naherp.com website and just search by county. Here, for example, are the records for Columbia County, Oregon (148 records of 17 different species):

Hey Jonathan,

Is BC officially part of the NW chapter's territory? I was just noticing that my BC records from August don't seem to appear on the NW Chapter scorecard. (I don't care about the contest, but I did manage to add a couple of new regional districts, Fraser Valley and Squamish-Lillooet, to the county tally, for whatever that's worth.)

I don't think it's "official", but it should be included. I brought the idea up a couple years ago in this thread, and the limited responses were positive:

Yeah, Steve was absolutely instrumental in WA getting records for every county, also lots of new species for a lot of counties.
