Early Idaho Spring

Post by Ryan Young »

We found a few herps out yesterday. We really wanted to find Rubber Boas and the weather was good in the morning when we found the one but as the day got more overcast and cold the encounters slowed so we headed to look for Couer d' Alene Salamanders. We searched a couple new areas and found quite a few. One area in particular did not seem ideal for them but we encountered one anyways. Overall a great day considering the time of year.

Nice work. That's a very cool snake/sali combo.

Fantastic finds! I can't wait to track down some of those manders myself. Good to see it's warm enough for Plethodon in Idaho. They are certainly active in the Columbia River Gorge right now.

The season is upon us in Idaho! I live in South Idaho and have already found 2 racers and caught 2 rattlers this year! I believe they are Crotalus Oreganus Lutosus (Great Basin Rattlesnakes) but I am not sure and haven't figured out how to load up images on here yet.
