Newts in seattle?

Post by Creativeness »

Sad to say I've only found 2 of these cool critters: ever. Fairly common and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for somewhere fairly close to Seattle? I know it's frowned upon to ask but anything with be greatly appreciated.

Although Taricha can be found almost anywhere, the most reliable place I have found is McLane Creek Nature trail near Olympia. Not necessarily close to Seattle, but if you want to see them in numbers with some regularity, this is the place. Just walk the trails/boardwalks and look in the water. They can also be found crossing the trails.

How are you searching?

This time of year small waterbodies are worthwhile. And of course rain gets them moving.
