Hi All,

2017 Nominations have to be had or NAFHA will have to close shop.

We have no structure anymore.

We have NO IC.
No DC

If Chapters cant keep Presidents and IB Members if chapters, there will be no NAFHA.

Is it time to Close UP shop, forums, and chapters? Or Do we want to continue?

Yours Truly
Brian Hinds
California Chapter President.

I hate to see NAFHA go away but I think its time. Speaking for this chapter, we have almost no forum participation and its become harder and harder to nominate officers.

I don't know where we go from here. Is there a possibility to collapse some of the dying chapters, such as this one, into some of the more active chapters?

Alright one nomination! Thank you.

Here are the current officers.

Pres: Joshua Emms
Vice Pres: Bryan Hamilton
IBM: Tim Warfel

I can make a post calling for nominations. I think the Vice President can also serve as the international board member.

OR...we can just nominate officers for 4 year terms so we don't have to worry about pseudopolitics, exaggerated "consequences" and whatnot every single year just to enjoy a hobby forum.

I think closing down the RM chapter is premature- Jeremy's idea has merit- nominate officers every 2 or 4 years vice annually. Also I believe we should reach out to the Arizona chapter and perhaps merge the RM and AZ chapters into one?

I'm willing to serve in whatever capacity. I agree with longer terms.

Thanks all, for contributing.

As for Steve's suggestion that "we" reach out to the AZ chapter for some consolidation - works for me. Would it be most appropriate for our current pres to ask their current pres to run it by his people? Something like that?

cheers

I would be OK with consolidating with the AZ chapter.

As far as the 2 year terms, I don't think the bylaws allow that. And as fundad pointed out, we don't enough structure to change those by-laws. I would also say that if we can't get our act together to nominate and vote annually, pushing that back to every two years is not going to help, it will probably make things worse. I do not like rules or structure. But there is a reason NAFHA adopted those things.

Ah, the joys of self-governance. Ha ha ha. November strikes again! Ha ha ha ha ha...ain't 2016 been a bitch.

I wonder if a sit-down and maybe a come to Jesus is in order. Say, at the pickle party's usual lunch event. Maybe we ought to find a place that serves beer by the pitcher. Might help people get over their inhibitions. Ha ha. I don't think we need the social lubricant, but I am down for a few beers with you wankers. Ha ha ha.

In such an imaginary meeting, I would suggest bringing 1) an enumeration of the pros and cons of a NAFHA chapter & forum existing, and 2) some description of alternatives to a NAFHA chapter & forum, including whether they provide the same or other pros, and suffer the same or other cons.

Just throwing that out there. Trying to be constructive, yada yada yada.

See you, all or some, Dec 2. Bring out your dead.

oh yeah, some BYU kids kind of got the pickle party reins this year - if you're not looped in, holler and I'll get you the details

I Love all of your thoughts.

These thoughts are needed by the current president and IB member to work them in the IB Forum. Or have your new representatives do so.

If we are only a forum and a social club, we don't need NAFHA for that. NAFHA was founded to bring paths to conservation minded herpers, Citizen Science, and to build bridges between Academia and us amateurs in order to help any way we can.

It is really used in that way anymore, and rules and such are too often kicked aside to keep it a social free for all herp club. (And there is nothing wrong with that, but those are two different reasons and often have conflicts of interest)

Brian Hinds
California Chapter President

PS My voice is old in this community, and I have been hoping new blood and new leadership can bring us out or find the right direction.
