GD I plan to buy a pair of those blacktails December or January >.< We've messaged backa nd forth about 'em...god those are NEAT. What temps do you cycle for breeding on those?

Wow! Nice snakes. I'm a big fan of the black tailed cribo's myself.

Thanks Phil!

Paul- I don't really cycle any of my snakes. I let the seasonal temp fluctuations do the trick. In the winter, I allow the nighttime temps to drop into the low 60's. They generally start locking up in November... Hopefully I'll still have a pair for you in December!

Would any of these fit the bill for large, easy to handle colubrid that does ok at lower temperatures than most other snakes in the hobby? Love the cribos and the Mussuranas...surprisingly the piebald morph is even attractive to me and I am not one to usually fancy morphs.

Joseph,

Most of the above would fit that bill. The yellowtails would be the exception.
I certainly would not call them "easy-to-handle". They are clearly the most aggressive member of the drymarchon genus.

Mussurana are generally docile, but are rear-fanged and can have an aggressive feeding response. With proper care and caution, they are very handleable.

Indigos and cribos are generally fast, active snakes. They're not going to sit in your arms like a ball python, but most individuals are pretty mellow and easy to handle.

All are best kept a bit cooler than most colubrids.

if you don't I understand. I'm just broke right now following replacing a water heater and having plumbing done on the bathroom :? Home ownership is expensive.

my preferred cribos are the yellowtails but DAMN they're expensive as CBB

John,

Long time no talk. You always have amazing animals. I have a new snake room, but I don't have new racks. I will be calling you in a few months I think, you're great to deal with.

Paul- I understand perfectly. Home ownership can be a challenge. I didn't mean to sound like I wasn't sensitive to people's financial obligations. You're right though. The yellowtails are a blast if you're into that sort of thing. It's like handling a cross between a king cobra and a mamba (minus the venom of course!)

Justin- Thanks man! I'll look forward to dealing with you again. It's always a pleasure.

oh, I know you're not insensitive. I'm just frustrated at my financial situation :) I want those damn cribos! I just got the upgraded retic cages built and put together yesterday (and I'm sore as hell ow ow ow). So I've got adult cages available, I've got baby cages available, I've got a crapton of feeders that'll be here tomorrow, but I don't have the $$ I went back on forth on mussurana vs cribo but...I really like the cribo so if I gotta choose (and I do) that's what I'll chose.

The minus the venom part is important ;)

Mussurana are simply gorgeous and interesting. I just read up about thier captive requirements on your website and, man, they are awesome! Only if they kept that awesome ring around thier necks...imagine, a 6ft long Diadophis haha!

I agree Zach.

Watch for a mussurana article in the upcoming issue of HerpNation Mag.
