Re: April Species Counts
It's been a crazy spring...new baby, new job, and graduate school!
Finally can post a few herps for the month.
American Alligator
Green Anole
Red-eared Slider
Rio Grande Chirping Frog (calling)
Bullfrog (calling)
W. Cottonmouth (DOR)
Not much, but I'm hoping to get out some more next weekend!
Cheers
Matt

Re: April Species Counts
For yesterday:
Tyler County: DOR Tan Racer
Hardin County: DOR Tan Racer
Orange County: DOR Broad banded water snake
DOR Texas Rat
Jasper County: DOR Texas Rat
Can we get a new thread for May?
And Chris, you should come visit the area again soon. I found a live Tan Racer today in the same areas we road cruised during the outing, and then found two DOR Tans yesterday. That could knock a lifer off your list, and they're a lot of fun to catch!

Re: April Species Counts
April's already over?
I spent about 6 legitimate hours in the field and was rewarded with:
Ground Skinks
Cricket Frogs
Green Anoles
Gulf Coast Toadlets
And some calling treefrogs
Oh well, my species list always sucks when I'm target-oriented (and I'm always humbled by few/no copperheads). On the bright side, I'm getting decent at identifying trees and it was an interesting place.
On the daily shuffle (home-road-work-road-home, and some oddball non-herping jaunts):
Mudsnakes
Ratsnakes
Ribbonsnakes
Saltmarsh Snakes [one was smacked a good mile or more from where it should have been due to 7" of rain in about 3 hours (fresh DOR a couple of days after the deluge)]
Bullfrogs
Narrowmouths
Spotted Chorus Frogs
Creole Chorus Frogs (that complex anyway)
Leopard Frogs
Gulf Coast Toads
Chirpers
Red-eared Sliders for sure and maybe but probably not other baskers
Regular Snappers
Alligators
Plus the four+ mentioned above.
I think that's about it other than plastered snakes that I didn't bother to ID (would have upped the natricine list).
