Borneo Dispatches #40: Another Bornean Short Python...

Post by Hans Breuer (twoton) »

Nothing to narrate here, really - been there, done that. Drove down the road. Found a Python breitensteinii. Picked it up. Got peed and pooed on. Took it home. Snapped pictures of it the next day. Released it again. Yawn.

And in case you're wondering: yes, it's the second specimen in exactly three weeks. You may officially hate my ugly German guts now :-)

Come to Borneo...where you can get a python between your legs without Viagra. (DISCLAIMER: No, I was NOT sitting on the snake. It was just crawling around, looking for shelter under my ample read-end)

Sorry, should be "breitensteini" - one "i".

I think that having two different snakes (the other being your trouser snake) that close to each other would concern me..

I love Borneo STPs. I had a pair of CB/CB animals that produced three awesome litters (51 perfect, huge eggs - no infertiles !!) prior to me selling them (why did I sell them ???). Mine were puppy dog tame, and incredibly good looking. I can't imagine finding one in the "wild." I still get excited about garter snakes. I'd probably have a heart attack. Thanks Hans.

Hans, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but that snake is fat. It looks like the average American. Next time please find a healthy one.

Thanks!

Must be a CB thing. This one here exhibited exactly the same traits as the last one. I never approached the snake without sturdy leather gloves.

John, if you take a closer look, you'll see that the snake had missed a few meals. Sunken flanks, wrinkly coils, flappy skin...flesh sloping from both sides of the spine. Maybe it doesn't really come out in the photos. We spent most of the morning cruising Kuching for frozen mice, but no luck, all fresh out.... I'll have to pump my contacts at the local university.

Hans, that’s a sad story. I’ll send you some frozen mice, though they might not still be frozen when they arrive. I guess it’s like they always say, the camera adds 10 pounds.
