Nothing beats pure locality breedings, especially if from WC and f1 stock. Awesome!

Thanks! You have a good size collection going there. I bet they keep you busy. Not many people work with those Cat-eyed snakes that I know of.CCarille wrote:This year: Amazon Tree Boas (already gravid), Ball Pythons, Banded Cat-eyed Snakes, Sonoran Desert Boas (already gravid), New Guinea Tree Boas, Solomon Island Ground Boas, Solomon Island Tree Boas, and Haitian Boas (already gravid).

I'm trying to breed my mexican hogs this year. I've seen them locked up a few times, but no signs of the female being gravid
Next year, I hope to try my easterns and southerns.

Are you obtuse? I hope you know that there are "hognose" snakes on three continents, and they span quite few species. There are countless localities for King snakes, let alone species... Maybe you shouldn't have posted in this thread, it seems to be beyond your grasp.

No permit is required for keeping Eastern indigos in California, but one would be needed to transport them across state lines.Ross Padilla wrote:Do you have to have some kind of permit for those Eastern Indigos in CA?
As far as what I have going on this year I have green tree python eggs and 2 clutches of ball python eggs in the incubator right now. I may be getting Bredl's python eggs, but I am not sure at this point. I produced 19 Rio Fuerte beaded lizards earlier this year, and I hope to produce Madagascar giant hognose, black milksnakes, Andean milksnakes, Tamaulipan ratsnakes, cave dwelling ratsnakes, and maybe Argentine boas if I am lucky...

Various subspecies and localities of Lampropeltis triangulum. It's hard to get a reliable follicle/ova palp done on a rubber boa, so one or several of my females may be gravid, too. If so, add Charina bottae to the list.

Thanks, Gerry! Those two particular adults are absolutly smokin'. For realz. The photo was lightened in an editing program - it was taken when the room was pretty dark to avoid distrubing them. She's about 3 times his size, so if she decides to move, he's just along for the ride.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
I currently have eggs from Ghost Hondurans, Albino Nelsons, Okeetee Corns, Hypo Everglades ratsnakes, and some random corn snake eggs that came in to adoptions. I am waiting on Blackheaded Python eggs, Kenyon Sand Boa babies x3 females, Amazon Tree Boa babies x3-4 females, and hopelessly waiting on woma eggs... they don't look likely... at all. Got a few more years before things get really cool and I can breed Pseustes poecilonotus, P. sulphureus, and Spilotes pullatus. Oh and I have some carpet python babies.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
Just got my woma python clutch (13 eggs), awaiting my hogg island boa litter, and got a pair of subocs going to town (only got one true month of cool down, terrible winter).
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
Cole - I'd love to see some pics of your rubber boas. I've always thought they were pretty neat.
Hornemadness - I'd love to see your viper boas. Candoia are one of my favorite genera.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
P.deppei jani, western hognose, and in the not terribly distant future, eastern coachwhips, rubber boas, O.p.coxi. Also, working with ackies, fire skinks, and a small leopard gecko colony. I pretty much only breed the geckos to give away to friends and family wanting a beginner herp for their kids.
I'm a big fan of the uncommon, "underappreciated" stuff, with a particular soft-spot for large, active, arid-adapted colubrids. Malpolon and Ptyas (even though those are less arid) are my dream critters. As well as a whole slew of Australian elapids I can't have unless I leave the states. Sigh.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
Gerry,
I hear. Thanks for the kind words, too! If you ever make it up this way, you're more than welcome. We can discuss the ins and outs of the picky little buggers over some locally-crafted beverages, even. I'm serious.
Chris,
You've caught me off-gaurd! I honestly don't have any recent photos of any of my Charina to post. Not many people seem to care what they look like, so I haven't ever been prompted to spend much time with them and the camera. I'll try to get something done soon, but work's been busy (even working weekends right now). I'll post when I get some photos done.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
No worries Cole! I know rubber boas pretty much all look the same, but it's just something about them that interests me. They definitely intrigue me and I always love seeing them when the opportunity seldom arises.
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
crotalus adamanteus, sistrurus milliarius, crotalus mollosus, heterodon nasicus & kennerlyi, love the crots and heterodon
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
I will definitely keep your invitation in mind, amigo! My wife and I have been applying for various MT wildlife biology/conservation positions; I haven't gotten asked to interview for anything up there yet, but I reckon it's only a matter of time until I do. And getting a job and becoming a neighbor would be even better than just visiting for an interview, of course!Cole Grover wrote:Gerry,

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
Chance, i love crotes to, you should try to breed Crotalus Ruber, and Crotalus Cerastes .Are Rubber boas hard to get a hold of?
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
rubber boas I have no answer for. I love the ruber and cerastes..baby steps for now...Just renewed my hot permit this past year so my collection is at its foundation stage. My goal is to work with and breed as many North American crotes as possible...
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
I am too much of a control freak to breed anymore. I worry too much about where they will go.
If I had more time at home I would breed phantasticus or other of cult following because of the obsessive seriousness of those mostly that keep them.

Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
Cole your milksnakes are so beautiful. I would venture to say that the light bands/backg could be called truly Silver.
Re: what snakes do you breed( lizards and frogs are welcome)
I love cooking eggs and starting neonates. I have only used vermiculite coarse pref. I use a cabinet with 3" flex watt (stapled across back wall)and hydor on the top shelves (looped in a spiral along side walls) which may or may not be used depending on whats cooking in the boxes. Sometimes will take in eggs. Either to keep all or for a pick of the litter. I have dabbled in suspension and would like to try more but I am almost sentimental about vermiculite .

Some kick ass animals posted here. Cole, those milks are marvelous; I honestly think some of the north american milks are prettier than hondurans and pueblans. I can't imagine breeding animals too small to take pinky mice.
Those E. milaris are pretty awesome too.
