Joseph, they are interesting birds for sure, and have some unique nesting/beaviors. They are colonial, and they routinely rob each others nests, commonly eating eggs etc., but somehow it all works out depite what at first seems like destructive behavior. I used to live under a large oak tree with a "grainary" branch, with many hundreds of big acorn cached in it. This nest on the film is unusual to me, as I did not know they would nest in a palm tree. I wonder where it was filmed? Do they occur on Catalina, I see reference to Avalon? Really different woodpeckers, loud and raucous and beautiful colors.

Very cool video! I love woodpeckers! They are some of the coolest birds around, except when they peck on the metal on the roof!
