Acorn woodpeckers at nest footage

Re: Acorn woodpeckers at nest footage
Joseph, they are interesting birds for sure, and have some unique nesting/beaviors. They are colonial, and they routinely rob each others nests, commonly eating eggs etc., but somehow it all works out depite what at first seems like destructive behavior. I used to live under a large oak tree with a "grainary" branch, with many hundreds of big acorn cached in it. This nest on the film is unusual to me, as I did not know they would nest in a palm tree. I wonder where it was filmed? Do they occur on Catalina, I see reference to Avalon? Really different woodpeckers, loud and raucous and beautiful colors.

Fun video Joseph ...and nice account there Vic. They are one of my very favorite birds species. Here's a closeup pic I took way back when.

Very cool video! I love woodpeckers! They are some of the coolest birds around, except when they peck on the metal on the roof!
