Nice Eye Shots

Post by HerperBrewer »

Hey guys, I was a semi active member but I guess my account got deleted ( I was last on in May lol ). I thought I would post a picture that I took this past spring of a large T. radix that I found in Eastern South Dakota. The best part of this picture is how you feel that you are staring eye to eye with the snake. Garter Snakes' eyes aren't even that pretty, but they still look cool up close. I was wondering if anybody has some good eye shots of some herps.

the whole forum got wiped in...June? or maybe really late may due to shenanigans on the host's side. Read some of the stickies for sordid details (sadly, no skin, violence or fun is involved...shenanigans should always have at least one of those).

Lots of good stuff here....Owen's frog with the sun ray reflection is probably my fave.

Alas, I'll have to poop in the soup and take this opportunity to vent my frustration about ring flashes. Again and again I've been warned against them precisely because they often leave that horrible ring reflection in the subject's eyes, and it seems there isn't much you can do about it.....or is there?

Owen, your shots are all nice, your bullfrog looks suspiciously like another toad though...

Here's a couple of my favorites. Sorry for the varying sizes, I switched uploading tools to photobucket and the old one didn't resize.

I have lots of eye shots, but I like the ones where you get an interesting reflection.

Here's a self-portrait courtesy of a young Salvadora grahamiae -

but sometimes you get clutter like the road this Coluber was found on (although I did get a sefl-portrait on the rostrum) -

Normally I don't like to do these things, because I want my skills to remain a mystery, but I'll give it a try...

1. No idea Redbelly? Kirtlands?

2. Toad. Maybe A. americanus or fowleri

3. Frog maybe a bullfrog?

4. I'm going with Fox snake

5. Strikes me as a natricine Maybe and easter garter?

6. Crote for sure Timber maybe?

7. I think it is the same as number 6 another timber?

8. racer?

9. I'd say redbelly but I don't see a spot on his lip.... ah hell redbelly

10. no idea. First thought was watersnake

11. No clue. Love the teeth in this shot. Almost looks like a viper, but no pit.

12. Turtle? Map turtle maybe?

13. Definately a skink. Five lined?

14 Cottonmouth

15 rough green?

16 cricket frog?

17 No clue. Masticophis? No idea

18 definately a garter. Maybe marcianus or cyrtopsis

19 going with ratsnake here

20 this one reminds me of a crocodilian Alligator maybe?

21. It looks like a crote, but I can't say which one. They all look like timbers to me!

22 looks familiar, but I can't place it.

23. Box turtle Maybe an eastern form?

Phew! That was fun
