My first post on here contained a bunch of photos of me holding timber rattlesnakes in tongs. I understand that many of you are opposed to the handling of horridus in this manner. So, I decided to make a post of the rattlesnakes I saw this year, but left alone. I threw in a few other herps too.
Enjoy!

I like how this snake blends in with the slate.
An unusually empty day at this site.
See what I mean?
A different site...
The yellow snake in this photo has a neat blotch on his/her back

Are all the timbers in your are like that, or are there some slightly darker individuals?
Re: PA Timber Rattlesnakes and Other Herps
Those are some of the nicest den shots I have ever seen, and gorgeous snakes, you are really fortunate to know such places. Do you see the young of the year along with the adults? I sure hope you and your Dad can keep those great locations discreet and protected. I loved seeing those, someday I hope I can see such a site...Vic

Thanks. I do see young of the year there. Last fall there were close to 50 snakes, more than half of them young of the year. I'll have to dig those shots up some time.
And believe me we keep them safe and discreet. My grandpa has his map of all the dens he knows in his safe But in all seriousness I know how important it is to keep these secret, or to have the knowledge limited to a select few.

Awesome pictures! I love the variation of colors that you have there. I prefer to see the hands off approach with this sensitive species, you have some nice spots there and like you mentioned it will be important to keep knowledge of them minimal.

Beautiful snakes! I love the black and yellow phases.
Re: PA Timber Rattlesnakes and Other Herps
It's great to see all the undisturbed shots of these guys. In-situ photography is the only way to go! Nice job.

Great stuff! PA timbers are the only ones I've seen, and these photos make me want to return sooner than later.
