Yes, they are a State endangered species, not very common.This was the second live specimen kirbyl4 found, he found one last year as well. If I have the story correct (perhaps he or his brother will elaborate, I wasn't present for either find) a DNR representative came and collected the snake, took scale samples and measurements, then had them meet him back at the point of capture the following night to release it where it had been found. During this process, a DOR specimen was also located. I believe that one was taken for study, and/or was going to be donated to the Smithsonian.
