I for one was really disappointed with the lack of wormsnakes.

Seriously though... AWESOME finds! Matt - the full beard looks good.

A rainbow snake in MD is a pretty huge deal, isn't it?!? Aren't they super rare there?

Yes, they are a State endangered species, not very common. This was the second live specimen kirbyl4 found, he found one last year as well. If I have the story correct (perhaps he or his brother will elaborate, I wasn't present for either find) a DNR representative came and collected the snake, took scale samples and measurements, then had them meet him back at the point of capture the following night to release it where it had been found. During this process, a DOR specimen was also located. I believe that one was taken for study, and/or was going to be donated to the Smithsonian. That's the way I understood the events surrounding the collection of the snake and the filming of this video.

Yes all snakes were measured, scale counted andphotographed for study purposes. Info forwarded to the DNR. The dead one was donated. I have found three in two years. I am hoping the population is way better than we think. I can't wait to get back out there and look for more. It just been so cold at night.
