Mostly Crotes 2014

Post by Stephen S »

As most of you know the herping in SoCal has slowed down tremendously the past few weeks, so I figured I'd use this as an opportunity to post some of the crotes I've encountered this season, along with a couple other finds. I'm going to post them in the order which they were found, starting with the most recent.

Speck in shed I found this weekend (Riverside County, July 25)

Another speck I found that same night

Later that night I found this great looking boa crawling on top of some bushes

Alright, that's all folks. Sorry for bombarding you with crote pics. I've just been fantasizing about crotes alot lately since I'm going to Arizona in a few weeks. So needless to say I'm going kind of crote crazy right now.

All the riverside specks in this post are inland, the only desert speck is the one from SB county, that one was found in your neck of the woods.

I believe the May sidewinder is Crotalus cerastes- Cerastes cerastes is an old world viper found in the Sahara :)

Yeah I neglected to add the crotalus in front because I figured it was a given. Its Crotalus Cerastes Cerastes, the Mojave Desert Sidewinder.

Actually all the snakes I've found in july this year have been found in the field. I haven't found a single snake by road cruising this month, but then again I've only gone cruising a couple times this month. I've been spending the majority of my time night hiking.

Yeah I've got the west riverside county specks dialed in. Now I just need to lock down san diego county specks.
