One of my colleagues working in Virginia just sent me this photo of a ringneck he found today. I thought you all would appreciate it! What a find! And yes, it's alive!

Maybe worth a writeup in Herp Review? How often are two-headed snakes found alive in the wild?

Re: 2 headed Northern Ringneck Snake
Any updates on how it's doing or if it is eating?
More often than we think? Many probably go unreported. Here's another recent one. If anyone can ID it that would be awesome too. Ooh just found a video of it too:chris_mcmartin wrote:Maybe worth a writeup in Herp Review? How often are two-headed snakes found alive in the wild?

On the contrary, due to the "newsworthiness" of two-headed snakes, and many people's inherent nature to want to claim a little bit of the limelight for discovering such an aberrancy, I personally think we hear about the majority that are found (not necessarily most that actually exist; just the ones that people discover).PrimitiveTim wrote:More often than we think? What kind of fella would find a two-headed snake and not tell anyone?

Yeah, I wasn't talking about the ones found. I was talking about all that hatched out since I would think most don't survive very long.chris_mcmartin wrote:On the contrary, due to the "newsworthiness" of two-headed snakes, and many people's inherent nature to want to claim a little bit of the limelight for discovering such an aberrancy, I personally think we hear about the majority that are found (not necessarily most that actually exist; just the ones that people discover).PrimitiveTim wrote:More often than we think? Though, I am surprised the Turkish farmer didn't kill it. Much of the world is very superstitious about snakes and don't hesitate to kill any they see so a two headed snake may be perceived as extra evil and killed. idk, just a thought

I mean, a two headed snake is essentially the serpentine equivalent of a conjoined twin, so certainly not unheard of.

I don't have any updates on the animal. The guy who found it took it to the virginia version of FWC.
It definitely looks like a very new hatchling.
