Re: Like Field Herping?
Man, if I lived in the SE there wouldn't be a new county left in GA, MS, AL or the Carolinas...
Re: Like Field Herping?
I've scouted a few of the empty counties in Georgia like Atkinson and Ben Hill. I figured I could drive up the interstate and find at least a tree frog or toad in each of them. The farther north ones are still some hours away for me. I'm sure there are herpers in Atlanta, maybe even Macon. They could certainly help close off GA.
The rest are a good distance for me. I think J. Holbrook is slowly working in NC since he moved there less than a year ago.

I don't know what kind of time you have, but if you get 3 days off in a row and want to clean house on GA...just map out a route that will take you thru most of those empty counties. stop at bridges and ponds and take pics of turtles. Take pics of road kill. It's not hard to get 10 or 20 counties in one day.
You have to remove yourself from the idea of the herping "destination" and make the trip the destination, not some farm or tin field.

My wife and I have one car. She doesn't really herp. A 3 day herp trip of any kind would be awesome for me, but I can't leave her without a car that long, and she'd never go along with the idea of a 3 day herp trip.
Trust me on this one, I've looked at it and given my limited time and money, it isn't in the cards for me right now.

Me too, James. And then parrots took over my life. The empty counties haunt me, but the birds are so very good at guilting me out when I leave them for any length of time.'ve wanted to check out some of those middle of nowhere counties in MS for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to it.

Texas will be closed out in 2016.
Arkansas/Louisiana will be hit as well.

I hit 4 new counties in NC in October, and have my eyes on a few more for spring.
Re: Like Field Herping?
If I can find the time this summer, I'm going to try and clean up Alabama some.
