Hi all,
It's been a while since I've posted some of the incredible animals I've seen so far this year and I am currently writing this in the midst of a crazy 2-week testing period at school. We all need a break so here I am!
Much of this year for me has been devoted to a lot of research and learning about habitats / conditions and about my camera gear; I recently upgraded my 12 year old camera body to a modern one which has made a world of a difference, but has been quite confusing here and there! I've been fortunate enough to get out on multiple occasions with Robert and Nicholas Hess and my good friend Kyle Jimenez, who's always sending me pictures of his latest finds in the Santa Anas.
In some approximation of chronological order, here are some of this year's finds.

So far this year has been a blast. With night driving season starting to get really good I have my targets set for the deserts. Hopefully I'll be able to see some mitchelli and gracia which are high on my list for this year.
Happy herping and be safe out there!

One more thing. I realize this isn't the photography forum, but I'm wanting to step into more videography now that my dslr cam shoot great quality videos and after seeing some of the work of the incredible Carl Gerhardt. If anyone has gear / technique tips or recommendations for a steady - cam or gimbal rig that would be highly appreciated!
Thank you.
Thank you.

Really great finds and shots (I saw them earlier on Flickr). I was just in San Diego and had little with snakes, even when I hopped over to Anza-Borrego.

Alright, I'm done with that medallion shit...lol It seems (to me) to have morphed itself into a display of overbearing obnoxiousness and elite infliction. Anyway, I don't like it aymore
I really, really like that first Ruber shot

Thank you for the kind comments Pat and Porter!Porter wrote:Alright, I'm done with that medallion shit...lol It seems (to me) to have morphed itself into a display of overbearing obnoxiousness and elite infliction. Anyway, I don't like it aymore

Pat, bummer your trip here wasn't the most successful. I'm surprised your luck in Anza Borrego was so poor. Usually even on poor nights it's not too hard to scrape up some of the more common species such as glossy and shovel - nosed especially in the flatter creosote basins. Hopefully you can make another trip out here soon! I'm not as knowledgeable as many of the people on here but I'd be happy to take you somewhere or to some spots I have in borrego and around socal the next time you come around!
Porter, funny story about that shot. I was done shooting the snake after taking around 100 shots (including the wide angle one right after, which is of the same snake). Right as I was stepping away he stuck his tongue out like that and held it for a while, so I leaned in quickly and took that one. It always seems like it's the first or last shot that is the best!

Thank you Mike! I really love that area, it never fails to fascinate me or show some spectacular sights. Definitely an underappreciated and under explored place.
