Happy Fourth of July to all herpers.....
It has been a very different year. Difficult in many new ways, but also gratifying to see hope for the future. :thumb:

This is a video of the kingsnake I shot two days after collection. It is eating a hours old baby mouse. Sorry for all the shaking and loss of focus, I was excited. :) :) :)

Yep old guys are still kicking it....
I miss getting out in the field. Some of my buddies are getting out and seeing lots of cool animals.
Both my sons are out also(twins 32 years old). One is in Utah, the other in Thailand. So I get some good pics.
Maybe next year I can get up to Utah. Get some rubber boa pics....

You must be really proud Craig, of your sons. Its cool how they absorbed your passion for herpetology.

On another note, do you breed your own mice?

Im really leaning towards doing so again because of postal delay stuff.

Yep 15 boxes going all the time. Pine shavings, Teklad lab chow, water. Eight big boxes 4 girls 1 boy, seven small boxes 2 girls 1 boy.
That was all I could get. Lab breeder boxes are expensive new, cheaper left overs at reptile shows. Water bottles are surprisingly hard to find at a good price.
I am at 35 snakes (mice eaters) now. I may go up to close to 60 when I have clutches of babies.
I also have 5 blue tongue skinks, that eat "Beneful" dog food, Dubias, Crix, king mealworms and some fruits.
Then there are two three toed box turtles in confined flower beds out side (fruits, veggies, dry cat/dog food).
About 20 years ago I used to mail order from Rodent Pro... Expensive....

I renew CA. Native Propagation Permit annually, along with the purchase of appropriate CA. and other state fishing or hunting license.
Surprisingly of the hundred or so reptiles I see in the field, on the average I take one every three years. I did education talks at the high school I taught at just 4 months ago.
I tried to have a gopher snake or other common native snake, a ball python, a box turtle, and a blue tongue to give students examples reptiles etc.
I started with education talks over thirty years ago while in community college.
