Anolis in Colombia part 3

Post by mateo.gable »

Here are some photos of various individual Anolis around my house. It is located in the West Andes of Colombia northwest of Cali at 1700 MASL. The habitat is gardens and some cloudforest remnants. Any thoughts on the species? Are there different species represented or are they different individual of the same species? Thanks for any suggestions.

Great shots of some rarely seen anolis - do you have species names for them or are they not determined?

Anolis **yawn**, my arse!!

Image
Anolis proboscis (Ecuador)

Image
Anolis megalopithecus (Colombia)

Image
Anolis biporcatus (Honduras)

Image
Anolis fraseri (Ecuador)

Image
Anolis aquaticus (Costa Rica)

Image
Anolis vanzolinii (Ecuador near Colombian border)

Image
Anolis ibanezi (Panama) This was a species that we described last year from Panama.

Image
Here are ten of the thirteen species of Anolis that are sympatric at El Cope, Panama. Off the top of my head I can't think of a clade of vertebrates in the western Hemisphere with so many species found sympatrically. I can't find my pictures of Anolis kunayalae, but I will post one when I do.

Thanks for looking, Anoles rule!

These two both appear to be Anolis mariarum.

My god he posts, albeit only 6 of em but still!

Latella...I think I need to see more of fraseri! I know you're working with the CA/SA anoles, but you wouldn't happen to have pics of A. roquet sumus?

Great photos!!! I never knew how variable they are... all the anole species I see on classifieds don't even compare to the ones shown here..

Here is my little group of Chamaeleolis Porcus or Anolis Porcus (whichever you prefer)

mateo.gable and pituophian - Thanks a lot for sharing those incredible Anolis pictures!

Ian: That male proboscis anole is spectacular! - I've read about your trip to Ecuador with Steven Poe in the recent issue of the Anolis Newsletter. Do you have pictures of the A. orcesi you found?
The coloration of that A. megalopithecus is incredible! I can't recall ever having seen a photo of that species, or of A. vanzolinii.
Thanks a lot.

Chris-
Unfortunately, no pictures of roquet. I have not been to the Caribbean yet, with the exception of Roatan. Why the interest in roquet? It is a pretty cool looking species.

That is an amazing group of Chameleolis that you have there. I would love to make it to Cuba someday to find them in the field. My advisor has spent a lot of time there and has seen them a lot (as well as barbatus and other sp.)
