I'd say my favorite was this Kirtland's Snake I found last year in late October. It was my best field-herping day ever...and that was before I came across this lifer. Unfortunately, I haven't really done much field-herping since :/ Perhaps another reason it is my favorite is because I found it; for some reason, my dad usually finds the coolest stuff on our trips

Wow, I'm glad you challenged me to find the only digital picture of my most recent favorite find! I didn't think I even still had it.

This was my first ever l.t.syspila! Found it under a rock on the edge of a pond where I wasn't expecting to find anything other than maybe a d.punctatus or a n.sipedon.

This was last year, and I've certainly had some memorable finds since then, but this HUGE, adult male western hog which I cruised with my son, Fischer and some friends was a GREAT MEMORY....
Image

Alejandro Lozano took this shot of Erik, myself, and Fischer taking pictures of our prize.
Image

Earlier that same day we got this hatchling as well....
Image

Another car got this little one which I was able to photo:
Image

Chad Whitney snapped a shot of me teaching Fischer how to tail a bullsnake... GREAT MEMORY...
Image

Here's the boy doing what his daddy taught him:

Anyway... yeah, posting one is tough.

After seeing pictures of one of these as a kid, I always wanted one. I found this in Sumatra in December of 2010 when the desire to keep herps had long since passed.

Mine is nothing compared to these. I am sorry for the really bad picture quality I was still learning how to use my camera, this is my brothers find but I was the only one with a camera so I took the picture.

Nonsense. Did you see mine? Nothing special about a red milk snake, but it was special to me. That's all that matters :thumb:

I actually think this shot is rather artistic. (even if it was an accident)

That is what rough greens are like. Green in a sea of green. Fleeting glimpses of vertebral movement among the swaying of the leaves. Nice one!

This is a tough one, but eventually I had to settle on the one herp that left me completely stoked for the next two weeks after I found it.

You'll find one, just keep looking. They are very secretive snakes.

I know it's been tough with the drought and all, but you can still turn them up in the sprinkler-infested habitats within the metropolitan area of Houston, TX.

I couldn't decide between an elapid i found in 2008 or a Morelia oenplliensis I found back in January. Toxicity won out in the end!
Not the best shots but a pretty cool animal anyway.

Oxyuranus microlepidotus Inand Taipan.

These were my favorite finds over the years, not just because of the animal but all of the variables also. Not the greatest pics but most are from over 6 years ago and I could not afford much for a digi-cam. :P

Oh, I'm one of the few rational people that have chosen to let their lawns turn brown and die instead of wasting water fighting off the inevitable during the worst drought in recent record.

At least someone is doing something about the useless water loss.

Way too many to choose from. I opted for favourite species of herp, rather than favourite individual herps, found while herping.

Crocodylus porosus
Image
Varanus varius
Image
Varanus komodoensis

For individual herp, finding this Varanus rosenbergi digging her nest in a termite mound was pretty cool.
