REVISED VENOMOUS GUIDE PHOTOS NEEDED...COPPERS & CORALS

Post by Brian Hubbs »

We are finally finishing the sorting thru hundreds of photos some of you submitted for inclusion in our revised rattlesnake guide (which is going to also include the Copperheads, Coral snakes and Cottonmouths). Right now we desperately still need good, high res., clear, non-photoshopped (nothing...do nothing to the photo) images of Osage Copperheads, Broad Banded copperheads, Texas Coral Snakes and Eastern Coral Snakes.

Remember, those who get pics published receive a free copy of the updated and expanded guide. Pics should be at LEAST 6MB when you send them. DO NOT do anything to the pic. Do NOT resize it, do not sharpen it, do not adjust color or brightness. DO NOTHING!!!!! Some of you did not follow this rule and we had to toss your beautiful pics because we could not re-size them and retain the correct pixelation. I repeat...do not photoshop your pics...please...send us the original image.

All images need to be between 6 and 9 MB. My e-mail will not receive larger images...and only one image per e-mail...please. Also, please put your name on the pic, along with what the snake is...ie. CopBB for Broad-banded copperhead. We do not need to know localities, but the state name would be nice. Please label the pics as follows:

CoralTX-TX-JoeBlow.jpg
or
CopBB-TX-BrianHubbs.jpg
or
CopO-KS-ChadWhitney.jpg

Thank you. Good luck...and I await the new onslaught...

Can I send you a Northern Copperhead pic just in case you end up needing another?

Did you actually send 6 different E Mails per instruction?!

I've got several of what I think are (possible) suitable pics of E Corals. Maybe I'll try to pick a fav when I'm next rummaging through that area of my computer...

Mike: Yes
Justin: Great...
Jordan: Got 'em...
Tim: We really need E corals bad...
Monk: New book name might be "A Guide to the Rattlesnakes and other Venomous Serpents of the U.S." or something like that...The book will also be much larger and cost a little less...5 cents less...$19.95.

The first edition will no longer be printed, so if you don't have it yet I'd get one quick. They are almost gone...we only printed 5,000.

My biggest issues were with the two lep maps (which are just wrong), but what's the deal with the molossus map? What I also found confusing is that for some species/subspecies you tried to show the range into mexico, but for others its cut off considerably (like scutulatus, pricei, etc.) or partially (like atrox, and klaubs). Just seems like they should be consistent.

We tried to show enough Mexican range as the map would allow, or the subspecies allowed, but the book's focus is the U.S. If you think our maps are off...please send me some info or your own idea of how it should be changed. We are very open to suggestions. We consulted 3 books and the range maps reflect what we felt was most accurate according to the other authors, but no one is perfect. :?

Your Timber Rattlesnake guide was way off, because my neighbors dog died when it was bitten by one at Lake Shasta, and he said it was a Timber.

Hell, my grandfather will swear to his dying day he found cottonmouths in Alamagordo NM. He gives me beer and ammo so I quit arguing with him about it.

yes, you can buy my silence with alcohol and crates of ammo (30-30, .22, 30-06, .357 and 45-70 only).

Yeah, I agree with Crotalus, your molossus map is definitely off. Nigrescens goes up to the Sierra Del Nidos, west to Maguarichic, Yecora.

Concolor map is way off too (Brendan didn't catch this?) Most of (Lower)Kane County should be abyssus.

I always heard red against yellow...so that one still fits. Find an axanthic then that'll mess it up.

what i remember from my early childhood (before we moved up north where it didn't matter):
"red touch yellow, kill a fellow
red touch black venom lack"
