Inquiries on Oklahoma
Planning ahead in hopes that I can afford it when the time comes, does anyone have experience/tips to share concerning herping in Oklahoma, starting with if late April or any time through May is an okay time to look around (or if the tornadoes are just too frequent)? If things fall in place I'd like...

Re: Nerodia X Thamnophis Hybrid...?
To be blunt, if you can't wrap your head around the simple fact that the animals you're talking about hybridizing are incompatible either genetically or ecologically, or the fact that convergent evolution, homologous traits, or natural variation are things that exist, you're even less qualified (and...

Re: Nerodia X Thamnophis Hybrid...?
There is even less chance of a Nerodia x Thamnophis hybrid occurring, especially in the wild, than there is a longnose crossing with a kingsnake (ie. zero chance because it's not happening with the latter either); Lampropeltini clade diverged some 3-8 million years ago (nearly all the genera therein...

Between the options of sayi and deserticola, by and away this matches sayi far more. However locality would be rather important as sayi intergrades in more than one place with deserticola, and in some broad regions with affinis (which tends to resemble sayi a lot more than deserticola does).

In that case, no it's not in the genes themselves. It's in the epigenetic regulators, the environment altering enzymatic ability to turn on and off controls for pigments and impacting methylation patterns that lock and unlock the ability to read genes. If it were genetic alteration the offspring of ...

Beyond wishful thinking, there's no signals of hybridization here, and "lateral fading" in milks is definitely not automatically some old trait passed down from longnoses. Pics are shared fairly frequently from the region where I live of milks that have lighter sides than dorsal patterning...

This past winter was spent making videos about the animals and plants at home (will probably be doing the same this winter since herping around here is kind of impossible in the snow), and then with spring, started out with finding frogs:
