Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia torreya)

Post by Daniel D Dye »

I received my first special permit to search for various spider species in Torreya State Park in 2010. My brother, Mike, stayed with me at the Yurt in August of 2010. We found most target species except for trapdoor spiders. Now, fast forward to present time...Finally my son, Michael, and I find this beautiful female Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia torreya) in Gadsden County, Florida.

I don't believe I've ever seen the abdomen before... interesting.
