I'd like to tell you guys how I searched through miles of litter, knee deep in muck to finally find this little snake, but, confession time, the truth is...... the other day I typed Crayfish snake and a certain MO county into google and it came up with a habitat shot I went to the place shown, and sure enough there was the snake. That was pretty cool! Of course, most of the credit goes to the guys who originally located the snakes!
So that got me thinking, what herps have you guys found just by typing them in google? This guy and saugas is about it for me so far. The sauga story is... I typed it in google and a map popped up with the den sites shown in detail and a discussion about which ones were the biggest, obviously very helpful for an out of towner to locate them!

I have used Google as well. If you enter your species into "Images" very often not only will it have pics of the animal but habitat shots and even maps. It works well for me.

I don't trust google.
I have never found specific locations through google. Perhaps I will give it a shot.

I've tried it... I think it all depends how you interepret the information. If you already have an idea of where to look... it might help.

I found our local population of Blue Spotted salamanders that way.

I use iNat to find all my herps, also working with a new AI program that will revolutionize herping as we know it.

agreed inat is often very helpful
Re: Google Herping
I use it extensively. Everything from image searches, new articles, fishing sites. Trail biking, hiking, camping and birding sites. FB groups and iNat are very helpful. People put too much information or they post under their own name and say "found in my yard".
My recent Florida trip I found my lifer pygmy rattlesnake from a site I found on ebird and two kingsnakes at a site I found using the street view feature to virtually drive around from a 1000 miles away.
