Thailand October

Post by Vipera1234 »

Hi guys, I am trying to piece together a longer trip (2-3 weeks) to thailand in october. This is proving quite hard. Is there anyone who has some general tips, some must visit areas to cove as many species as possible? How is it to be out there at night, are herping locations easy to find/accessible? And any guides/local herpetelogists who might be interested in taking 3 biologists out would be highly appreciated.

i spent some time bouncing around Thailand in December of 2022. While on a daytime excursion with guides provided by our lodge we got to talking with our guide. We offered him some cash if he would return to our lodge later that night and take us out road cruising and herping some areas he might know of. He was unable to do it but made some phonecalls. That night 2 friends of his took us out. There was a language barrier but everyone understands money and we made it work. We did the same at another lodge in Thailand resulting in the staff member getting hold of a friend of theirs who works in a national park. We tried our luck with this method again in Vietnam at the tourism booth on Cat Ba Island. Worked great each time. What may be a small amount of money for you is a great and easy night of work for the locals. The off duty cab driver we had taking us around Cat Ba did it 3 nights in a row for us and even started helping us look for herps.
