Back in April, my good buddy Hunter and I took a trip to Southwestern NC for two days to see how many salamander species we could manage to turn up. This was my first time herping in this region of the state, so the majority of what we planned on seeing were lifers. Our first stop consisted of a third-to-fourth order stream, along with a handful of roadside seeps. We very quickly managed to turn up a variety of species in and around the stream.

The roadside seeps also proved fruitful, producing our first ocoee and spring salamanders of the trip.

After finishing up at the first spot, Hunter and I spent the remainder of the first day and the second day exploring higher elevations in search of some of Western NC's famous endemics.

I know this post isn't very long, but I wanted to get something out onto the forum, as I've been a member since December of 2021 and have neglected to post anything until now. I had a wonderful time herping Southwestern NC for the first time and plan to go back in the future to knock off a few missed targets and take the time to photograph some other species!
