Lens for canon eos r50

Post by HerperHarrison »

Hey, I’m looking for an affordable macro lens for the canon eos r50. It would be used to photograph frogs and snakes during the night. I looked at the 35mm and 85mm ones and can’t decide. I’m open to other suggestions. Not sure which one is best for me.

Just for more info I already have the 18-35 mm kinda general purpose lens that comes with it and a long range lens I use for birding.

I don't have mirrorless yet. But I love canons 100mm. I like this one because the distance is quite good for frogs, handling snakes on hooks etc. Don't need to get too close, yet not really far away. Terrible for large snakes and habitat shots. But amazing for closeups.

Edit. My wife has the r50. We bought the adapter for our old lenses and use the 100mm macro on her r50 body. Works well. Otherwise she just has the kit lens while she learns. It's not very good at closeups or macro. I'm not really sure what the new lenses are like for canons mirrorless line up, I'm waiting a few years to see how they manage after booting 3rd party manufacturers from making lenses. buying the older lens types and an adapter might save some money I might think.
